When the Metropolitan Electricity Authority announced a couple of weeks back they’d be starting work on lower Sukhumvit to remove all the overhead wires and poles this side of Xmas I assumed the work would be done at a snails pace and we might even see all the disabled elevators on the BTS working before the wires were gone but how wrong was I in thinking that?

Very.

The cable guys are on the tools around the clock and despite leaving some obstacles in their path as they tackle burying the wires on the 12 kilometer stretch of Sukhumvit between Soi 1-71, they are making quick progress.

I’m not sure how many of the 544 poles earmarked for removal have gone already but a walk from Soi 33 down to Soi 4 on Monday seen the boys in tan hard at it.

So it looks like the cables will be gone on schedule after all – give or take a week.
