Pregnant Brit Killed By 18 Wheeler In Phuket

A 41-year-old British tourist who was six months pregnant was killed on Monday afternoon in Phuket when the bike she was riding pillion on collided with a truck.

The woman, identified as Ms Sophie Anderson, from Blackpool, England, died at the scene of the accident on Thepkrasattri Road just after midday.

She had been riding on the bike with her partner, and father of the unborn child, 30-year-old Danny Glass, also from England.

Eyewitnesses told police the bike pulled out to pass a parked car and collided with the 18-wheeler.

Ms Anderson was crushed to death by the tuck after she fell underneath it while Mr Glass suffered only minor injuries.

The truck driver fled the scene although a short time later he surrendered to police.

Mr Glass was being treated for shock and the British Embassy informed of the death. Police have said they will carry out a thorough investigation before deciding if any charges are to be filled.
