On Friday the Criminal Court in Bangkok bailed four members of a prostitution ring who had been operating in and around lower Sukhumvit.
Two foreign suspects, Michael Pearl, 45, a Sudanese with Australian nationality, and Ghassan Wakej, 36, from Sudan and two Thai suspects, Chairat Narachan, 62, and Chaiyakorn Uamsaree, 45, were bailed for 300,000 baht each.
The four who are accused of human trafficking by luring women into prostitution were arrested by the Department of Special Investigation after a tip off from an NGO.
Officers from the DSI asked the court to detain the suspects as the investigation is still ongoing and believe all four are a flight risk, however, the four suspects petitioned the court to grant them bail with the court sided with the accused.
It’s believed the gang ran a brothel for Middle Eastern clients in lower Sukhumvit together with five other foreigners from Sudan, Australia, Syria and Morocco.
