Russian Arrested For Cyber Crime In Bangkok

Police have arrested a 31-year-old Russian man in Bangkok believed to be the admin of a dark web site that dealt primarily in stolen credit cards and identities.

Sergey Medvedev was arrested last Friday (Feb 2) by officers from the Crime Suppression Division on Sukhumvit Soi 56 at the request of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The request from US authorities was part of a global crackdown by the DOJ on the dark web site Infraud – whose slogan was “In Fraud We Trust” – for defrauding victims of over $530m as well as over $2.2b in losses.

Thai media report Medvedev had been in Thailand for six weeks and was staying at a condo on Sukhumvit Soi 100/1. Police said he was a frequent visitor to Thailand over the past 6 years.

Infraud was founded by Ukrainian national Svyatoslav Bondarek in 2010 but he disappeared from the internet in 2015, which is when Medvedev is believed to have taken over running Infraud.

Medvedev was said to have over 100,000 Bitcoin (BTC) at the time of his arrest, worth approximately $820m.
