Court Reject Lawsuit Against PM By Former Immigration Chief

The Administrative Court of Thailand has rejected the lawsuit filed by former Immigration chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn against Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha over his transfer out of the police force to a job in the civil service in April 2019.

In the suit filed with the court on Sept 22, Surachate claimed there had been no investigation for 17 months into why he was removed from the police force and given a job in the civil service working out of the Prime Ministers office as an advisor.

Big Joke said he fulfilled his duties to “full capacity” as Immigration chief and the various other police departments he headed-up.

He claimed the transfer was illegal and the failure of the Prime Minister to conduct an investigation has hindered his career.

The Administrative Court on Tuesday dismissed the lawsuit stating the PM had no case to answer as the letter sent to the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office by Surachate dated Aug 20 requesting he be reinstated in his role with the Royal Thai Police had a time limit of 90 days for a response.

Surachate filed his lawsuit on Sept 22 before the period of consideration had expired and hadn’t updated the court to the outcome of his requested following the November 18 deadline.
