Thai Guy Goes Bonkers On Beach Road

A Thai man who caused a spectacle on Sunday afternoon in Pattaya was last night under the care of doctors after cutting his neck with a knife following a standoff with police.

Police were informed of a shirtless man threatening passersby on Beach Road close to Soi 4 around 4.30pm.

When they arrived at the scene the man was shouting incoherently and brandishing a knife he’d stolen from a nearby food vendor.

Despite their best efforts to subdue the man, who it’s believe was high or drunk, police had no success in talking him down which led the man to cut himself with the knife.

Around a dozen officers pounced and managed to prevent him from causing himself or anyone else any further injury.

He was patched up by EMTs and taken to the hospital for an examination. Local media report he wasn’t seriously hurt.

Booze Ban Thailand Thursday 1st October

There will be a ban on the sale of alcohol this Friday, 2nd October to mark Wan Awk Phansa – the end of Buddhist Lent.

The restriction on the sale of booze will run from 00.00 to 23.59 on Friday leaving some flexibility for venues to open early Thursday then throw open their doors again at midnight as many nightclubs and go-go bars choose to do.

Most pubs will remain open selling only non-alcoholic beverages as they do good business on the food side.

Wan Awk Phansa is one of the big five days on the holy calendar that sees the sale of alcohol banned. It was added to the list of alcohol-free days on religious holidays back in 2015.
