Thousands Stranded As Heavy Rain Continues To Batter South

Thousands of people have been left stranded as heavy storms continue to batter Southern Thailand leaving runways, railways and roads under water or damaged leading to cancelled trains, planes and bus services.

Nakhon Si Thammarat airport closed last Friday due to flooding and remains out of service until at least Wednesday. Much of the region on the east is still under water with no let up in the rain.

Officials in Nakhon Si Thammarat are still hunting for 4 or 5 crocodiles that escaped from a farm during the floods – 4 or 5? They aren’t sure?

Meanwhile in provinces on the opposite side of the Gulf, the main rail link south has been hit with tracks damaged in at least 20 locations with trains returning to Bangkok last night after getting only as far as Hua Hin.

In Bang Saphan district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, a hospital was evacuated due to flooding and the main highway south blocks for several hours as it was under a more than meter of water in places.

Thai media are reporting the floods have taken the lives of at least 25 people with two other still missing.

If you have plans to travel to or from the southern provinces, check ahead or hold of until things return to normal.
