Police say the truck driver who went on a wrecking spree around Bangkok on Wednesday afternoon in a bid to flee police, was high on crystal meth.
The lunatic lorry driver, Ekapot Yotsiri, 27, was finally apprehended in Ekkamai close to Sukhumvit Rd when his six-wheeler ran out of gas.
Members of the public helped cops chase him down when he tried to flee the scene. Some street justice was also on the cards after he’d damaged dozens of vehicles, 26 alone on Ekkamai Road.
Following his arrest a press conference was held soon after where it was revealed Ekapot was found in possession of 1.93g of crystal meth and that he’d tested positive for drug use.
Reporters were also told he had a history of drug abuse and had been arrested several times in the past for possession.
The sorry saga began in Saphan Khwai where Ekapot had made a delivery and was returning to his depot when he was stopped for driving in a bus lane. Cashless and high, he decided to drive off.
In his bid to escape, he hit a police car on Ratchaprarop Road which sparked the police chase that seen the lorry smash into ten vehicles on Phetchaburi Road before turning on to Thonglor Rd then Ekkamai Road which is when the demolition derby really began.
He hit and damaged another 26 vehicles leaving the street outside Big C looking like a scene from an action movie.
Ekapot was charged with drug possession, careless driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.
