Two Injured After Cough Bottle Explodes At Hua Lamphong Station

Despite all the wild headlines there was no “bomb” accidentally set off this afternoon at Hua Lamphong Railway Station in Bangkok, according to the commander of the Railway Police.

Pol. Lt. Jirasan Kaewasengeak said the small explosion was thought to have been caused after a lit cigarette was dropped into a cough bottle, with the commander adding the small blast was not caused by an explosive device.

Two men, identified as Tanong Maisao, 25, and Lamai Uam-ngamsap, 30, were injured and sent to the General Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

The Railway Police commander told reporters one of the men was smoking as he waited with his uncle to catch a train and when he couldn’t find an ashtray to stub out his smoke, he used a cough bottle found in a trashcan to dispose of his cancer stick causing it to explode.

Bomb disposal officers were deployed as a precaution.

Some Thai news websites are reporting it was a cough bottle, others an energy drink bottle
