Two Thai Women Held In Japan On Drug Smuggling Charges

The Thai Foreign Ministry confirmed today that two Thai women were arrested at Narita Airport in Tokyo after customs officials found cocaine the pair were attempting to smuggle into the country.

Thai media reports suggest the women were unaware they were in possession of any drugs and this follows similar stories from 10 other women arrested in the same circumstances last month.

A spokesperson at the information department of the Foreign Ministry said if found guilty they could be jailed for up to ten years but depending on the type of drug and quantity, the sentence could be more severe.

The two drug mules were part of a tour group visiting Japan. Their guide is also being questions by authorities.
