Visa On Arrival Fee Set To Double

It was announced on Tuesday the Visa On Arrival fee will be doubled to 2,000 baht in a bid to ease congestion at immigration checkpoints at land border crossings and international airports.

Government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Keawkamnerd told reporters the move would bring increased security as more tourists would apply for visas at embassies and consulates in their home country allowing more rigorous checks to be made on those wishing to visit Thailand.

The VOA, not to be mistaken with the Visa Exemption, allows passport holders of 19 countries to enter Thailand for up to 15 days providing they can provide proof of funds, 10k baht for a single person and 20k baht for a family, together with a confirmed return ticket.

There was no mention of when the new higher fee will come into effect, only that it had been rubber stamped by the Cabinet.
