Mai Peng opened its doors in early November last year and planned on filling the void left by Nana Disco. I intentionally skip mentioning Nana Liquid as for me it took the wrong direction. But some five months on and the owners have decided to close down… temporarily.
According to the announcement on their FB page, the shutdown of the Soi 4 disco is due to the protests. Odd, as no protests are around the Nana area and more so the closest protest site at Asoke has now packed up and gone.
Is the implication that due to the protests not enough visitors are around to make the club busy enough to break even? I believe this to be the case, however, there should be no reason for that as Mai Peng is surrounded by bars full of girls and a two minute walk from Nana Plaza,
At 2am NP and all the Soi 4 beer bars close with the exception of Hilary 4 with its live bands and DJs further up the soi that remains open until 4am. That would seem like a great opportunity, so why hasn’t Mai Peng taken off?
That would be guesswork on my part as I didn’t know anyone who worked there for any length of time but if it had been my club I’d certainly have done a lot of things differently. Lets see what comes of it or will it go the same way as Nana Liquid who also said their closure was only temporary.
