The New Lightbox Gallery Viewer Getting The Axe

I’ve been asked 100s if not 1000s of times over the years why I don’t use a lightbox setup for photo galleries instead of the full-sized images loading on individual pages when you click a thumbnail.

The answer is pretty straight forward. I’ve never found a solution that I like so carried on using what works until the day comes when I find something that fits my needs.

Images not scaled to some crappy 400 pixels high unit, instant picture loading, ability to insert ads after x amount of photos and a clean, simple design that allows small social media sharing boxes that DON’T cover the photos.

A couple of days ago I thought I’d found a simple lightweight plugin that would tick most of the boxes and I’d probably have stuck with it if it hadn’t been for this…

Yeah, some users complain they don’t like having to click next image and wait for another pageload, which is up in the blink of an eye as Stickboy sits on a decent dedicated server all by itself, but using the lightbox you still need to click and when you do the image should be right there. Not a loading icon which is what’s been happening.

Who the hell wants to wait? Nobody in 2015. If it’s not right there visitors just hit the back button or the little red x to close the page.

Testing the lightbox out over the past 48 hours I’ve found it can take 3 or 4 seconds for an image to appear which is useless and the reason I’m pulling the plug on it later today.

One day I may actually find what I’m looking for… if you have any recommendations, please leave a comment below.
