Abandoned Apartment Block On Sukhumvit Soi 33

Published

on

A luxury apartment block that was abandoned before building work could be completed is currently crumbling and in tatters in Bangkok.

The 30-storey building was once bustling with expats and locals in a sought after location on the Sukhumvit 33 area of the capital.

However, it was sold to developers who started building and renovation work but abandoned the structure around 10 years ago.

The building’s concrete balconies are now crumbling and bushes have overgrown on the roofs.

Street food vendors have set up stalls outside while homeless people have taken over the lower floors which provide shelter from the searing daylight sun and cover from the heavy rain during tropical storms.

The mystery building now has little indication of who owns, why they left the property or if it will ever be completed for people to live inside.

Some superstitious locals even believe it is haunted or cursed, refusing to even consider living there if it was finished.

An Eden’s Whale Trap Feeding In The Gulf Of Thailand

Published

on

This extraordinary behaviour (where the whale treads water) is thought to have developed because pollution has made the Gulf of Thailand a hypoxic environment.

Sewage outflows from the land have caused all the oxygen in the water to be used up, except at the surface. This means the whale’s fish prey can only live in this surface layer.

By treading water and keeping the corners of their mouth below the surface, a flow is created pulling the fish into the whale’s mouth.

In the panic, some of the fish also seem to jump out the water and into the whale’s mouth

This clip is from the BBC series “A Perfect Planet, episode 4 “Oceans”, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
