Commuters Sign Online Petition Over Noisy BTS Ads

Unhappy commuters have been signing an online petition on the website change.org started by a passenger who feels the BTS and MRT operators are using double standards with their noisy advertising in both stations and trains.

Under the username Pattaya Upara, the complaining commuter questions on the petition website why passengers are not allowed to make a noise or be loud either in train stations or onboard the carriages but it is fine for the operators of both the BTS & MRT to deafen everyone with their high volume advertising commercials.

I’m sure at one point in their statement they claim their rights as a paying passenger are being violated. I could be wrong but that is how it read to me.

The ads are often way too loud but I doubt this or any other petition is going to change much as the revenue generated from these commercials must be enormous. You just need to look at the huge screens installed in many stations last summer to see this medium is a huge money maker.

The operators know commuters can’t escape the sound booming around stations and trains – just the way they like it IMO.
