Heartbroken Schoolgirl Finds Termites Have Eaten Her Money

The heartbreaking moment a Thai schoolgirl found her piggy bank had been raided by termites who had munched their way through her money has gone viral around the world this week.

11-year-old Nong Sawangsin from Kamphaeng Phet had been planning to deposit her savings into the bank when she took out her jar from a cupboard to count her cash.

Footage taken last month shows a down-hearted Nong watching as he mother sifts through the damaged notes, salvaging around 1,000 baht.

Nuanchaliaw said she felt sorry for her daughter more than she did for the money.

She said: “My little girl had been doing small jobs and selling little things to save her money. She wants to buy a car in the future.

“The termites destroyed a lot of the money but we were still able to deposit some in the bank”.
