Shoppers Abandon Trolleys

Photos showing dozens of abandoned shopping trolleys filled with freebies as part of a government giveaway have been widely shared on social media over the past 24 hrs.

Chaos descended upon a branch of Tesco Lotus in the Laksi district of Bangkok on Sunday afternoon after the ‘Pao Tang’ app crashed sending shoppers heading for home without their freebies.

The app was developed by the state-run Krung Thai Bank to facilitate payments under the “Chim-Shop-Chai” (Eat-Shop-Spend) program that will see 10 million Thais get 1,000 baht in free shopping.

KTB shutdown the system overnight for upgrades but blamed the supermarket giant for the disruption stating they didn’t provide adequate facilities to meet demand across 20 branches in Bangkok they assigned to take part in the program.

However, after reaching over and paying the driver, the wire was caught on the spokes of an umbrella hanging on the gate.

Old unused TOT phone booths are being converted into Covid-19 test kiosks to be used at hospitals in Surin province.

Footage shows the TOT phone booths repurposed with safety equipment so they can be used by medical workers to interact with potential coronavirus patients.

Surin provincial governor Kraisorn Kongchalad said that even though the province has no active cases, they still need to be prepared.

He said: “Our province has not found a new patient in the last 45 days thanks to the cooperation of the people and the hardworking medical staff.”
